Getting from Naples International Airport (Capodichino) to the city centre is relatively easy. The two main options are the Alibus airport shuttle, which connects the airport with Napoli Centrale railway station and the port, and a taxi, which can take you directly to your accommodation.
The best choice depends mainly on where you are staying, how many people are travelling together and how much luggage you have.
If you are staying in the Spanish Quarter, Piazza Municipio/Molo Beverello and Toledo metro station are two useful points of reference.
Important: Naples Airport closure in November 2026
Naples International Airport has announced that the airport will be closed during November 2026 for major scheduled runway works.
If you are planning to travel to Naples during this period, check with your airline which airport will be used for your flight and consult the official Naples Airport information before travelling. Airlines may change their schedules and arrival or departure airports during the closure.

Journey times depend heavily on traffic. If you take the Alibus, remember to add the waiting time at the stop, especially if you have a train, ferry or other connection to catch.
Alibus: the airport shuttle to central Naples
The Alibus is the dedicated ANM airport shuttle and one of the easiest public transport options for getting from Naples Airport to the city centre.
It is particularly convenient if you need to reach Napoli Centrale railway station, the port or continue your journey to another part of Naples.
Where do you catch the Alibus?
After leaving the Arrivals terminal, follow the signs for the dedicated Alibus stop.
Travelling towards the city centre, the main stops are:
- Piazza Garibaldi: for Napoli Centrale railway station and the metro;
- Immacolatella/Porta di Massa: inside the port area and useful for some ferry terminals;
- Molo Angioino/Beverello: the final stop near the Maritime Station and Piazza Municipio.
If you are heading to the lower part of the Spanish Quarter or Hotel Il Convento, the port terminus is generally a convenient option if you have manageable luggage and are happy to continue on foot.
How much does the Alibus cost?
The Alibus ticket currently costs €5 per person.
There are two types of ticket:
- Alibus single ticket: valid for one journey on the airport shuttle;
- Unico Alibus integrated ticket: also €5 and valid for 90 minutes from the first validation, including one Alibus journey and other eligible public transport services within the urban area.
If you intend to continue by metro, make sure you buy the appropriate ticket. A standard urban ticket is not valid for travel on the Alibus.
Alibus timetable and frequency
At the time this guide was checked, the published operating times were:
- Airport → city centre: first departure 5:30 am, last departure midnight;
- Port → airport: first departure 5:30 am, last departure 11:35 pm;
- Napoli Centrale → airport: first departure 5:10 am, last departure 11:50 pm.
ANM indicates a maximum frequency of approximately 15 minutes. Traffic, roadworks and temporary service changes can affect waiting and journey times, so always check the latest information from ANM before travelling.
Taxi from Naples Airport to the city centre
The official taxi rank is located outside the Arrivals area.
A taxi can be particularly convenient if you are travelling with heavy luggage, children or passengers with reduced mobility, or simply want to reach your accommodation without changing transport.
How much is a taxi from Naples Airport?
Official predetermined fares are available for certain destinations. At the time this guide was checked, these included:
- Napoli Centrale/Piazza Garibaldi: €21;
- Historic Centre ZTL: €21;
- Port/Molo Beverello/Piazza Municipio: €24;
- Teatro San Carlo: €24;
- Via Partenope and seafront hotels: €28.50;
- Mergellina station and port: €28.50.
The predetermined fare should be requested at the beginning of the journey.
The price is per vehicle, not per passenger. According to the official fare schedule, luggage and airport, night and public-holiday supplements are included in the predetermined fare, while other specifically listed charges may remain excluded.
Before leaving the airport, give the driver your full destination address and ask which fare applies.
This is particularly important when travelling to the Spanish Quarter: the “Historic Centre ZTL” fare should not automatically be assumed to apply to every address in the neighbourhood.
If a predetermined fare does not apply, the journey is charged according to the taximeter and the applicable supplements.
How to get from Naples Airport to the Spanish Quarter
The Spanish Quarter covers a relatively large area of central Naples, with narrow streets, hills and different access points. It is therefore important to consider the exact address of your accommodation, rather than simply asking to be taken to the Spanish Quarter.
Reaching the lower part of the neighbourhood near Via Toledo is quite different from reaching its upper streets.
Alibus to the port, then walk
For guests staying at Hotel Il Convento, one simple option with manageable luggage is to take the Alibus to Molo Angioino/Beverello.
From the port, walk through Piazza Municipio towards Via Toledo. When you reach Gallerie d'Italia, turn into Vico Tre Re a Toledo. Hotel Il Convento is a short distance away at Via Speranzella 137/a.
Allow approximately 15–20 minutes on foot, depending on your pace, luggage and exact arrival point.
Alibus to Garibaldi, then Metro Line 1 to Toledo
Another option is to get off the Alibus at Piazza Garibaldi and take Metro Line 1 to Toledo station.
From Toledo, walk along Via Toledo towards Gallerie d'Italia and turn into Vico Tre Re a Toledo.
This option involves a change but can be useful for other addresses in the area. For more information about lines, tickets and stations, see our Naples Metro guide.
If you have an Alibus single ticket, you will need another valid ticket for the metro. The integrated Alibus ticket can be used according to its validity period and conditions.
Taxi directly to Hotel Il Convento
If you prefer to take a taxi, give the driver the full address:
Hotel Il Convento
Via Speranzella 137/a, Naples
Before leaving the airport, ask which fare applies and how close the taxi can take you to the hotel. Traffic restrictions in some of the narrow streets of the Spanish Quarter can occasionally mean walking the final few metres.
Shared taxi, private transfer or rental car?
Shared taxi
Naples Airport also indicates a shared taxi service costing €6 per person, including luggage, connecting Capodichino with Napoli Centrale and the Maritime Station/Molo Beverello.
This is a shared service and does not take passengers directly to the Spanish Quarter. Check availability, departure arrangements and current conditions at the airport.
Private transfer
A pre-booked private transfer can be useful for groups, passengers with several suitcases, particular arrival times or specific travel requirements.
Before booking, ask for a quote that specifies the number of passengers, luggage, any child seats required and the conditions in case your flight is delayed.
Guests of Hotel Il Convento who would like information about a private transfer can contact the hotel directly to ask about the available options.
Local buses
There are also regular urban bus routes in the area outside the airport terminal, but they require more attention to stops, routes and possible changes.
For first-time visitors arriving in Naples with luggage, the Alibus is generally the easier public transport option.
Rental car
If your trip is mainly focused on central Naples, renting a car is not always the most convenient choice.
Parking, narrow streets and restricted traffic zones can make driving more complicated. A rental car becomes more useful if your itinerary includes destinations outside Naples.
Alibus or taxi: which is better?
There is no single answer for every traveller.
For one or two people with light luggage, the Alibus is generally the more economical option.
For three or four people, compare the total cost of the Alibus tickets with the taxi fare. The difference can become relatively small, while a taxi has the advantage of taking you much closer to your accommodation.
If you have heavy luggage, children or mobility difficulties, convenience may be more important than the difference in price.
Useful tips before you travel
- Save the full address of your accommodation. This is more useful than simply giving the name of the neighbourhood, especially when taking a taxi.
- Consider what happens after you get off the bus. A 15-minute walk can feel very different with a heavy suitcase.
- Allow extra time when returning to the airport. Add waiting time and possible traffic delays to the journey time, as well as the check-in time required by your airline.
- If you arrive very late, check the last Alibus departure. If necessary, arrange a taxi or transfer instead.
- Check fares and timetables before travelling. Transport services and prices can change.

Hotel Il Convento's tip
For guests staying at Hotel Il Convento, the best option often depends on your luggage.
If you are travelling light, taking the Alibus to the port and walking to the hotel through Piazza Municipio and Via Toledo is a practical option and gives you your first glimpse of central Naples along the way.
If you have heavy suitcases, children or mobility difficulties, consider taking a taxi or arranging a transfer and give the driver the hotel's full address.
One final tip: don't choose your transport based on price alone. After a flight, the number of bags you are carrying, your arrival time and even the final 15-minute walk can make a big difference.
Information checked in October 2026. Fares, stops, timetables and transport conditions can change. Before travelling, always check the latest information provided by ANM and Naples International Airport.
